On The Farm!

Today we started a new theme....on the farm!  The kids were so excited to share all the things that they already knew about the farm and the animals that live there.

Ms. Michelle was out sick today, so we spent a little extra time on the playground soaking up this amazing weather!

Our story today was Biscuit's Day At The Farm by Alyssa Capucilli.  Biscuit is a big helper at the farm, helping to feed all the animals.  Little piglet keeps getting out of his fence and trying to follow Biscuit around the farm.  They are both scared back into the fence when the geese start to chase after them.  What a fun, busy day on the farm!

After the book, we spent some time talking about grown-up animals and baby animals.  The kids knew immediately that they were different sizes....but when we talked about how they were called different names....they weren't so sure I know what I was talking about.  We learned all the grown-up farm animals names, and the baby farm animals names.  Some are easy....like dog and puppy....and some are funny....like goat and kid.

Then we talked about how we could describe pictures of the farm with words.  The kinds of words that we use to tell someone where something is located.  The kids were really good at answering where questions....but for art the test was going to be could they follow those where directions?

We took a piece of paper and glued down some farm highlights.  A barn, a pond, and a tree led the way on our picture.  Then each child received one animal at a time....and had to listen to the directions about where to put the animal....and then follow the directions correctly.  So....beside the tree, in the barn, next to the pond.....the kids had to find the right spot and glue the animals in that spot.  Although it got a little noisy and the kids were directing each other, everyone did a great job at our Listening and Following Directions art!
