How Big Is The Elephant?

Today we started the day preparing for art.  Each kiddo had a turn at the table for some painting.  They were sure what they were making yet, but we needed it to dry and little bit so when we were ready for art, it would be ready for us!

Our book today was What To Do If An Elephant Stands On Your Foot? by Michelle Robinson.  This is a story of advice about what to do on a jungle safari.  There are things to do....and things not to do....like scare the elephant.  Because if he gets scared, you will want to run away, which will attract the tigers....which will make you want to climb a tree, which is draw in the snakes....and on, and on, and on.  The jungle is a dangerous place!

After the story we made a chart about all the facts that we have learned about the jungle so far.  We know that it's hot, but shady because of all the tall trees.  It's wet and damp because it rains a lot there.  It's noisy because of all the animal sounds.  And....it's super colorful.  The flowers are bright colors and the animals are bright colors!

For art, we made our own jungle scene with two elephant handprints!  The pictures turned out so cute and the kids had a great time gluing down the real leaves.  And even a few inch worms made it into our classroom from the leaves, which added some extra art excitement!
