Ms. Danielle was here today and we practiced running and jumping. First, we took turns jumping down a long line a colored dots. Feet together, rabbit jumps. Along the way there were three larger hurdles to jump over, so you had to pay attention instead of just jumping as fast as you could go! Next we listened as Ms. Danielle gave directions about running to different colored cones throughout the courtyard. She said things like "if you have blue on your shoes, run to blue" and "if you have on a red shirt, run to red". At first, there was lots of random running, but as they got more practice, they definitely improved.
Today, we also had music with Ms. Stacey. For our hello song, we practice singing acapella. After that, we sang The Bare Necessities and learned a new part. The kids had definitely been practicing the tricky word, necessities! Next, everyone got an egg shaker for the book The Animal Boogie. We sang the verses and took turns guessing which jungle animal was hiding, and while we listened and guesses, the kids had to wait to play their shakers. Waiting can be so hard! When we got to the chorus parts, we played and danced! We practiced singing acapella again for our goodbye song, and the kids did really well singing acapella without help from Ms. Stacey or the teachers.
Our book today was The Jungle Baseball Game by Tom Paxton. The story is about a Monkey baseball team who gets invited to play a Hippo baseball team. The monkeys laugh and make fun of how slow the hippos are, thinking that they will never get beat. The hippos keep playing, try their best, and work together as a team....and beat the monkeys. It was a good lesson in not listening to what other people think....and always trying our hardest.
We started our art first thing this morning, but painting one foot red and stamping it on a piece of paper. Once it was dry, we could finish the rest of the parrot during art time. We painted one hand purple and blue and yellow.....and then used that to make wings for the parrot. Then everyone added a beak, an eye, and a branch for the parrot to sit on. It was for sure a messy messy art project.....but the end result was so super cute!!
