Welcome To The Jungle!

Today we started the day with some letters and numbers.   The kids all found the first letters of their names, made some sight words, and practiced sounds!

After some time on the playground, we headed off to see Ms. Michelle.  She started the session with yoga, which she said would get us all calm and relaxed and ready to learn.  Each child took turns being the yoga teacher.  Ms. Michelle gave us a picture and we had to demonstrate with actions, and tell with words, so our friends could all copy.  Finger Fun today was divided into two groups.  One group built towers, and letters, and shapes, and zig zag designs using straws and pegs.  The other group practiced letter strokes and letter writing in pans of salt.  Both groups were a big hit, so to give everyone a chance at each thing, we switched groups after a little bit.  The kids were all super excited to see Ms. Michelle and even told her all about their Spring Break vacations!

Our book today was Bedtime In The Jungle by John Butler.  In this book, as nighttime approaches, the mother animals and their babies are settling down for the night.  A rhinoceros soothes one child to sleep, while a monkey make a bed for her two babies, and a leopard tucks in her three little ones.  By the end of the story, we have met lots of jungle animals, and the story ends with a herd of ten baby elephant babies nodding off to sleep, and silence finally settling over the jungle while the owl watches over everything.

For art today we made our own rainforest rain clouds.  The kids covered cardboard circles with cotton balls and then added ing strips of bubble wrap.  Of course, there was lots of popping during this art, and since that's good fine motor practice, we just let them pop away! We reviewed that the jungle can also be called the rainforest....because it rains a lot there.
