All Things Summer!

Ms. Danielle was here today.  We practiced with hitting and aiming with hockey sticks.  The kids divided into three rotating groups.  One group practiced aiming by playing bowling.  The next group used a hockey stick to guide a ball through a line of cones.  The last group hit the ball back and forth with a partner.  We ended by taking turns to hit a bigger ball through two cones to score!

Miss Stacey came for music today!  We sang our hello song and used the spinner, which is a wheel that tells us lots of different ways to sing.  We sang loud, we hummed, and we sang while we jumped!  Next, we started a new song for the month of May, about the seasons.  Learning this one will carry us through the rest of the year.  After that, we talked a bit about the rainy weather that we've had this spring, and used different body percussion sounds to play along with a rain song - we had sounds for "pitter patter", "splish splash", and "drip drop".  After that, everyone got a bell and we played a song about rainbows.  This one was tough because the kids had to listen for their bell color in the song to know when to play, and follow directions when it wasn't their turn!  We brought the spinner back out for the goodbye song, and it told us to sing with actions, and then to sing a solo - two friends volunteered to give it a shot all by themselves!

Today's book was Summer Wonders by Bob Raczka.  This story is a rhyming book that celebrates all things summer.  There are so many fun things to do in summer....and the book has pictures and descriptions of many of them.

For language circle, we made a large chart with things we know about summer and things we can do in summer.  Some we recalled from the book, and some we made up on our own.

Mr. Jon came today for MyGym.  After we warmed up, we practiced moving a ball around cones with a hockey stick!  After hockey with Ms. Danielle and Mr. Jon today, we should definitely have some pros!  Then passed out our surprises for the day, which were orange cones.  We did some pretend play with the cones.  After that we learned how to do a ninja roll, where you roll on your back sideways.  Our game today was a pirate listening game where the kids ran from the ship to the island to dig for treasure....but they had to watch out for alligators and mermaids.  Our practice skill of the day was the swan stretch.  This skill works on the kid's lower back, overall flexibility, and stomach muscles.  The children lay down on their stomach, bending their knees, and reaching their feet toward their heads.  Then they place their hands on the floor and push up off the floor, arching their back and arching their heads toward their feet.  You would be shocked at how good they are at these yoga moves!!
