Happy Mother's Day!

So....today we started the day with pasta in the Touch and Feel pool.  All shapes and colors of pasta.  The kids sorted, and they magnified, and they counted, and they spelled words! Who knew pasta was so entertaining?

The rain held off long enough to go to the playground today.....we even got to see some sunshine!

Our story today was Mother's Day Surprise by Stephen Krensky.  Violet is a young snake who likes to play with the other animals in the forest.  But when spring arrives, her friends get very busy making presents for Mother's Day.  Violet is glad everyone is working so hard, but what can she do for her own mother?  Without arms or legs or teeth, she can't make gifts like the other animals can.  Then Violet discovers that there is one thing she can do that's different - and turning herself into the shape of a heart ends up being the most original gift of all!

We can't turn our bodies into the shape of a heart.....we can make one with our hands....but there are lots of other things we can do for our mommies for Mother's Day.  We made a list of all the things that the kids decided Mommies would like....and the list was really long.  We did talk about how some of the things they thought of would require some help from Daddies.....no baking cakes alone.... but most of them were really easy for us to do on Mother's Day, and every day!

For art we made Mother's Day presents.  We took pasta and spelled out "I" and "Mom" and used our faces as the heart to represent the word "love".  They turned out really cute!  We hope you all have a wonderful weekend and a very special Mother's Day!
