Today we started the day exploring bugs! Bugs are a big part of the summer.....and even sometimes at the beach.....so we had all kinds of creepy crawlies for the kids to look at!
Ms. Michelle was here today for OT. While the kids waited their turn for the obstacle course, they did some more sensory exploring of BLUE SPAGHETTI!! Well....not really, but it was fun to call it that! The obstacle course started by each child picking a colored bean bag animal, then jumping across three circles to get to the scooter. Then they had to ride the scooter around the "road" to find the matching colored circle for the bean bag they picked. Once they dropped off the bean bag, it was back on the scooter, and finish riding to the end. Finger fun today was divided into two groups. The first group assembled Mr. Potato Heads. All the right parts in all the right places....to make a potato face. The other group put together marble tracks. They were making long elaborate courses for the marble....and taking turns watching the marbles go down the tracks.
Our book today was Over In The Ocean: In A Coral Reef by Marianne Berkes. This story introduces kids to creatures of the coral reef following the rhythm of Over In the Meadow. The children sang, clapped, and counted their way among the pufferfish that puff, the grunt fish that grunt, and the seahorses that flutter.....while learning the appreciate that the ocean is much more than fun.... many animals make their home in the ocean!
Our art today was making pufferfish! We used forks to paint with....which has become a huge hit with the kiddos, and added eyes, a mouth, and two fins for swimming! They turned out so super cute...and even though we just started this unit of ocean animals.....I think pufferfish are the class favorite!!
