This morning in the Touch and Feel was some white fluffy material! We like to use our art supplies in the Touch and Feel pool so that the children have a chance to experience it BEFORE we use it for a project.
During morning circle, we introduced the theme of the week: FAMILY! We also talked about the calendar. The kids repeated the seven days of the week and practiced using today, yesterday and tomorrow.
Ms. Michelle, our OT, came for the first time today! The kids warmed up their muscles with an obstacle course. They picked a peg out of a bucket and then balanced on many different stepping stones set up in a straight line to put the peg in a peg board at the end. The kids each took a turn, and while they waited they wrote and drew with chalk on the sidewalk. Ms. Michelle always ends each session with Finger Fun....and today was no different. Finger fun was a whole bunch of stretchy balls, pegs to put together, feather dusters, paint brushes, and scarves. Many different textures and sensory experiences....all using tiny finger muscles.
Our story today was "That's Not My Dad!" by Peter Bently. A baby polar bear is searching for his dad. He found lots of winter animals to help direct him on his search. There was a daddy seal, a fox, a whale, and a penguin. Finally, he found his daddy polar bear sleeping in the cave. After reading the story, the kids practiced matching mommy/daddy animals with the correct baby. We learned that there are different names for mommy/daddy animals and baby animals. The kids had a great time practicing these new vocabulary words.
For art the kids made a picture of a daddy polar bear and the baby polar bear...which we learned is called a cub. The daddy polar bear was big and the baby was little. The kids glued the two polar bears onto a sheet of paper. Then they added cotton to make the polar bears body fluffy and soft!
