The pool was still full of dirt from yesterday.....so we just had a floor activity today. Mr. Potato Head was a big hit! There were all kinds of creative "creations".....and the kids were attentive and engaged the whole time!!
Miss Stacey was back for music today! This week we had a big focus on keeping a steady beat. After reviewing everyone's names in the hello song, we started out by practicing moving our steady beat around our bodies - knee patting, clapping, stomping, and head patting - while we stayed all together as a group and made our sounds at the same time. We used these moves to keep the beat to a song about the the life cycle of a seed. Next, everybody got a drum and we practiced using an instrument to keep a beat. We played with our sticks moving up and down and then in and out. This one was a little harder to coordinate with everyone playing together, but we got a great start and will keep working on it!
Today's book was Fran's Flower by Lisa Bruce. Fran is determined to get her flower bud to grow. But what does a fussy flower need to grow? First she tries some words of encouragement....but the flower doesn't listen. Then Fran figures that the flower would like some of her favorite foods-pizza, spaghetti, and even strawberry ice cream. But...it refuses to bloom. Finally, Fran gets fed up and throws the plant outside. Mother Nature step in with all the things that the flower has been missing....sunshine, rain, and air! Fran is so surprised to see what happens after just a few days!
No art today.....we did science instead! After learning ally he things that a plant needs to grow, we decided to try an experiment to make sure that we had the list just right! We planted one seed in a pot of dirt, watered it, put it in the window where it could get plenty of sun, and turned on the fans for air. We gave it all the things that plants need.....and predicted that it should grow! We planted another seed in a pot of dirt....but gave it no water and put it under a box where there was no water and no air. The kids all predicted that it wouldn't grow because it didn't have what it needed. Nothing happened today....so we will have to check our predictions again next week!
