My Friends!

Today the Touch and Feel pool was full of colored bears.  All colors, all sizes.  Great for sorting, patterns, counting, color identification, and pretend play.  The kids were having a blast with the bears, and it was a good introduction to today's topic of FRIENDS!

The book for the day was Friends by Helme Heine.  This is a story of Charlie Rooster, Johnny Mouse, and Percy Pig.  They are best friends.  They do everything together.  They ride their bike together, play games together, and even do their chores together.  Because that's what best friends do.  When night falls, though, and it's time to go to bed, they learn that sometimes friends have to be apart.  When night falls, though, and it's time to go to bed, they learn that sometimes friends have to be apart.

For our language circle, we talked about some fun things that we like to do with our friends.  You may not realize it, but siblings were high on the best friend list of our kiddos.  They gave good examples, and some accompanying stories, about playing outside, going to the beach, cooking, swimming, and watching Thomas with friends.

Art today was making a friendship heart with all our school friend's names on it.  Each child received a bag of flower petals each marked with a new friends name on it.  They glued the flowers on the heart one at a time....hopefully so you can help them read them later.  Before they were finished they repeated each friend's name, and some even read the familiar ones.  The project was a little confusing to get done making sure each child kept their names and didn't swap or lose any....but the finished art was super cute!

What a wonderful first week of school! We were so busy learning about ourselves and our new friends....by today, we were all a little tired!  They will build up stamina as the year goes along!  Enjoy your weekend!  More fun next week!!
